In my opinion, WordPress is an excellent starting point for Web Development. It is a very efficient Web Development tool. It allows all of the usability of a site like Facebook or Twitter while also being capable of performing numerous other features for more advanced users. I believe that WordPress is going to be a great learning experience for me in my path of learning to be competent at Web Design and Development. I am honestly excited about all of the customization I can engage in to make my own Web Page on WordPress representative of my personality and career goals. The only limitation I have noticed so far is that your page must have the .wordpress phrase on the end of it unless you wanted to pay a certain fee each month. However, I assume this is how most, if not all sites like WordPress are conducted.
There were only two challenges that I faced with this project. The first one was that directions asked for me to disable comments and pings on one of my Pages, which was demonstrated in the YouTube video associated with the step; however, for reasons unbeknownst to me the options displayed in the video were non-existent on the WordPress Page I was working on. I eventually discovered that I could use the Screen Options menu on the top-right hand side of the screen to check the discussion box and add these options to the bottom of my Page. The second challenge I faced was that I wished to display an image of myself from Facebook as one of my widgets, but when I inserted the link into the options for the Widget, the image was not showing up on my page. I finally discovered that I had to right-click the image and highlight the image URL from the information and paste that particular link to the Widget options. Following this step, the image showed up as I wanted it to. I certainly am going to use WordPress again for other Web Projects, as I have a variety of interests that could be represented by a fun, interactive Web Site like the ones you can create on WordPress.
