Project 3: CSS – Part 1

Project 3 involved editing the web site I created in Project 2 in order to include CSS styling features. We were required to create a CSS style page that both of our web pages linked to, and use the style page for any designs that we wished to employ. I feel more and more comfortable creating web pages with each new assignment, and I am very grateful to have learned how to use CSS to style my pages. CSS allowed me a much easier method of placing text on the page where I desired and inserting colors to the background and the text, as well. I have become a big fan of CSS, as it is much more convenient to use to alter lumps of text together rather than editing each tag individually in the HTML pages. The biggest problem I encountered with this project was that it was very tedious to place text on the page where I wanted it, as I used a design that placed a picture and a large greyish line on the left side of both pages and that made it moot to align all of the text as “center” because the true center was not where I needed the text to be. The only tool I believed in my arsenal to achieve this was the “text-indent” feature and this created a problem as I still needed to individually tag certain lines and use text-indent to place them in the correct spot. I finally discovered a much easier way than “text-indent” to achieve better results, and this was with the “margin-left” and “margin-right” tags. These tags let me put larger blocks of text where I wanted them rather than having to use “text-indent” on each specific line with an independent value for each line. All in all, I would recommend becoming familiar with CSS because it makes designing web sites much easier, as I previously mentioned. Have a look at my website with newly added CSS-features: http://ispace.ci.fsu.edu/~mah08e/cgs2821/css.
