PROJECT CHARTER

This project charter will detail the plans and overall goals of the website representing the upcoming restaurant Sue’s, which will be located in Tallahassee, FL. The purpose of the website is not only to create an Internet presence for the restaurant (a virtual necessity in the information era for any restaurant wishing to maximize its popularity), but to create an online atmosphere that promotes the benefits that can be gained for anyone who enjoys local cuisine and wishes to have a fulfilling dining experience, something that can be done by going to Sue’s.

Sue’s aim is to provide happiness to its patrons through satisfying food, outstanding customer service, and reasonable prices. Creating the website will support the mission of our organization and the needs of the user community by offering a user-friendly method of finding directions to the restaurant, viewing the hours of operation, perusing the menu before visiting the establishment, and observing the weekly food and drink specials offered.

The most important goals of the site are to provide an easy means of obtaining directions to Sue’s, clearly display the hours of operation, and offer a virtual version of the full menu, including prices, to the user. The intended audience is any man, woman, or child in the Tallahassee area with Internet access who appreciates good-tasting, well-prepared, and moderately-priced American eats. The site stands to benefit not only the intended audience by providing a glimpse into the enjoyable atmosphere of Sue’s, but the owners and stakeholders of Sue’s as the website should help drum up business and market the advantages and convenience of dining at the restaurant.

After visiting the site, our audience should feel a compulsion to visit Sue’s and try out the food, drinks, and overall experience that the restaurant stands to offer its visitors. Web-related strategies we will use to coerce users of the site to attend Sue’s include a tool for entering the users’ current location and obtaining directions and a map to the restaurant, an interactive online menu that will allow users to order certain Sue’s products and have them delivered to their residence in a timely manner, a method of entering in some general information that includes the user’s e-mail address to receive periodic newsletters about upcoming events and specials Sue’s will be offering to its customers, and online coupons that can be printed out from the website to receive discounts on certain Sue’s menu items.

The success of the site will be measured via several mechanisms: a count of the amount of coupons printed off of our website used at the restaurant, conducting surveys on location that ask whether or not an attendee has visited the website, a count of the number of members added to the newsletter system every month, and site statistics used to discover how many visits the site has had and what users are viewing specifically available for free via the Google Analytics program.

After the site is finished, it will be maintained by a site editor employed by Sue’s that will maintain the responsibility of keeping the content fresh and available to the audience. They will be responsible for creating news and feature material for the site. They will ensure that written content from the managers of Sue’s is provided on time, in the specified editorial and technical markup format, and with sufficient quality to meet site goals.

Aside from the site editor, who will take full-time control of the site after it is finished, the site will be fully created and completed by myself. I estimate that the website will contain about nine pages. Among these pages are: the main page that will provide links to the rest of the site and information about the history and atmosphere of Sue’s, a page displaying the daily hours of operation, a page displaying Sue’s full menu and prices, a page offering directions to Sue’s, a page where users can order certain Sue’s products for delivery to their homes, an About page that details information about myself and this project, a Form page that collects user information and adds them to our e-mail newsletter system, a page describing Sue’s weekly specials and featuring a coupon only available on the website, and a Site Map that lists all of the website’s content.
